Kathryn Zentner, LCSW
Kathryn Zentner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  She specializes in working with children and families.  Kathryn’s work with children and their families is based on a short-term, intensive, structured type of family therapy called Theraplay®.  Theraplay is a treatment approach that focuses on enhancing attachment between parent and child, and in that process helps the child develop a sense of belonging, trust in others, self-awareness and self-esteem.  Theraplay enhances attachment through playful, joyful, empathic and attuned responsiveness.  The method is fun, physical, personal, and interactive.  Typically parent and child participate in each therapy session.  Parents also receive specific guidance regarding how to incorporate the therapeutic principles into the home setting.

The therapy Kathryn provides is known to be effective in treating the following disorders in children:  attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, attachment disorders, autism and other pervasive developmental disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, and depression.

In addition to her counseling practice, Kathryn provides parenting workshops in the Austin area utilizing the Love and Logic® curriculum.  These workshops are held approximately five times a year at local churches.  A schedule of upcoming classes can be found on her website:  www.ourshiningstars.com

Kathryn earned her B.A. in Psychology from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and her M.S.S.W. degree at the University of Texas in Austin.  She has been working with children and families in a professional capacity for over 15 years.
